E L Titan is leading North American sires table by average
The Muscle Hill horse E L Titan, who is standing this season at Goulburn Valley Equine, Shepparton under the banner of Haras Des Trotteurs, is the top of the class on this year’s North American two-year-old sires’ list based on average earnings per foal.
Of 18 two-year-olds, E L Titan, whose progeny have competed in the highly competitive New York Sire Stakes program, has had 11 starters for eight winners and they have earned $586,906, an average of $32,606 as at October 4.
They include the talented colt Titan’s Mischief 1:55.4 ($287,212), a winner of three races including the $108,300 New York Sire Stakes at Batavia Downs, and a smart filly in Elqueen 1:57.6 ($109,650), who has won five of her nine starts headed up by the $100,000 New York Excelsior Series Final at Saratoga Raceway.
E L Titan is ahead of the champion sires Chapter Seven, Walner, Muscle Hill and Tactical Landing and the exciting first season stallions In Range and Captain Corey on the average earnings per foal list.
In recent years the title has been shared by Walner (2021, 2022 and 2023) and Chapter Seven (2024).
Despite never being syndicated and thus being represented by a relatively smaller number of foals, E L Titan has left the winners of $15.5 million with 30 in the 1:55 list and 50 $100,000 earners.
Among his best progeny have been the Ontario Sires Stakes champions Southwind Avenger 1:51.6 ($590,491), Hayek 1:52.6 ($495,841), Okeanos 1:52.2 ($234,622) and Moon Bridge 1:52.4 ($279,060), Platinum As 1:52.6 ($477,375), Splash Blue Chip 1:51.8 ($474,623) and the Dream of Glory victor Remember Titans 1:53.6 ($365,928).
E L Titan’s first ‘down under’ crop are weanlings and they have earned rave reviews by breeders. Two of his stock were offered at the NZB National Weanling Sale at Karaka, New Zealand in June, with a colt fetching the third highest price for a trotter at $27,000.
E L Titan was a top racehorse himself, winning just over $700,000 and taking a mile record of 1:51.4. He was a stakes winner at two, three and four and ran second to Father Patrick after sitting parked in the Breeders Crown 3YO Final and Canadian Trotting Classic.
E L Titan is one of the most stylishly bred trotting stallions ever to become available to ‘down under’ breeders. Apart from being by Muscle Hill, he is out of the Garland Lobell mare Courtney Hall, a sister to the USA 2YO and 3YO Trotting Filly of the Year Cameron Hall ($1.8 million) and to the dam of the Breeders Crown champion and highly influential sire Cantab Hall ($1.4 million).
Courtney Hall has left eight in 1:55 and five $200,000 earners including the Grade 1 Valley Victory winner E L Ideal 1:52.2 ($830,857), a brother to E L Titan and who has been strongly patronised at the stud in Italy, the Bluegrass Stakes winner Appomattox 1:52.4 ($619,895) and E L Rocket, a successful sire in Canada where his first two small crops have earned $2.3 million.
This is the family which also produced the champion sires Andover Hall, Angus Hall and Trixton.
E L Titan stands for a fee of $3,500 plus GST in Australia and $4,000 plus GST in New Zealand.
